Hi I’m planning to buy a GPS 1000 for iPad2, I going to use it on an airbus 320. My question is will the BE-GPS-1000 work on heated windows of airbus? I’ve seen some GPS that are unable to get a signal when inside the cockpit of an airbus 320 and a colleague says that it is because of the heating element and the shielding used on Airbus. Could you please give me some information regarding signal strength inside the cockpit of airliners? Thanks.

Functionality wise, the dongle will be just as accurate when using the converters. Some folks have used 30-pin dock extender cables to remotely mount the dongle, so the 6" Apple Lightning-to-30pin cable actually gives you some nice options.
That being said, the dongle is only officially supported with 30-pin iOS devices, so we’re at the mercy of Apple going forward (with the BE-GPS-1000). If something changes on their side we won’t be able to do much about it.
For that reason the Pro is the safest bet today. We’re working on some new stuff but haven’t announced anything yet. The Lightning connector isn’t shipping in production quantities yet (to small vendors like Bad Elf).
Thanks Brett,
That’s good to know, I do use the bad elf GPS dongle for flight is it just as Accurate and is it just as functional while using the 30 pin to lightning Adapter?
Or should I return it and wait for one with the lightning adapter?
Hi Jared,
As you’ve discovered, the Bad Elf GPS dongle (BE-GPS-1000) has a 30-pin connector, and will not work with any Lightning-based iOS devices unless you use Apple’s Lightning-to-30pin adapters. We haven’t announced any new products yet, but keep your eyes on our blog for any future announcements.
FYI, our Bad Elf GPS Pro connects via Bluetooth and works with the newer Lightning-based iOS devices including the iPod touch (5th gen), iPhone 5, iPad mini, and iPad 4.
Hope that helps!
