Announcing the Bad Elf GPS Pro!
Today we're proud to announce our new product, the Bad Elf GPS Pro, a next-generation GPS receiver and datalogger for the iPod touch, iPhone, and iPad.
The Bad Elf GPS Pro was designed specifically for pilots, boaters, and other outdoor enthusiasts based on feedback we've collected since we launched the original dock-connected Bad Elf GPS back in 2010. We didn't want to launch yet another generic external Bluetooth GPS receiver like those on the market today -- so we're not! Instead, we focused on packing a ton of great next-generation features into a small, rugged, and affordable package:
- Connect up to 5 devices at a time via Bluetooth
- Large LCD screen with backlight
- Extra-long battery life and 10Hz reporting rate
- Standalone GPS datalogger (100+ hours)
- Rugged and splash-proof to IPX4 standards
- Works with all location-based apps
The Bad Elf GPS Pro is available starting this week at the AirVenture/Oshkosh airshow.
Stop by our booth for a demo, and then visit one of these resellers to purchase a GPS Pro for yourself:
- MyGoFlight: Hangar B (booth 2080), Hangar D (booth 4108)
- Redbird Flight Simulation: Tents 208/219 (3rd tent from NW corner of Hangar D)
After the show we'll provide an update on when the GPS Pro will be available online and from our resellers worldwide.
Aviators: stay tuned for another announcement on Tuesday afternoon. If you're in Oshkosh this week, stop by our booth (Hangar B, booth 2125-2126) for a sneak peek!
No, that should be ok ;-)
I was just checking to see if it’s geared towards general aviation or commercial aviation as well.
Hi Alfred,
We use the MediaTek MT3339 chipset, which has a speed restriction of 515 m/s and altitude restriction of 50,000m. If either is violated the chipset will stop providing location updates, so it’s not suitable for high-altitude ballooning (if that’s why you’re asking). If you have another use-case that will hit these limits then I’d love to hear about it!
Best regards,
Brett
Does the Pro have any altitude and/or speed restrictions ?
Hi Patricio,
Thanks for the feedback! We are working on a mount solution and RAM would be a great way to go (either manufactured by them or compatible with their system). We’re hoping to have something to announce soon, so stay tuned to the blog or mailing list.
Best regards,
Brett
Hi guys, I´ve been working with the Pro for about 2 months now, and it goes just fine, the only thing I need for it is a mount, to secure the unit in the back side window of the plane, why don´t you ask to RAM to build a suction style mount for the Pro?
