Announcing the Bad Elf GPS Pro!
Today we're proud to announce our new product, the Bad Elf GPS Pro, a next-generation GPS receiver and datalogger for the iPod touch, iPhone, and iPad.
The Bad Elf GPS Pro was designed specifically for pilots, boaters, and other outdoor enthusiasts based on feedback we've collected since we launched the original dock-connected Bad Elf GPS back in 2010. We didn't want to launch yet another generic external Bluetooth GPS receiver like those on the market today -- so we're not! Instead, we focused on packing a ton of great next-generation features into a small, rugged, and affordable package:
- Connect up to 5 devices at a time via Bluetooth
- Large LCD screen with backlight
- Extra-long battery life and 10Hz reporting rate
- Standalone GPS datalogger (100+ hours)
- Rugged and splash-proof to IPX4 standards
- Works with all location-based apps
The Bad Elf GPS Pro is available starting this week at the AirVenture/Oshkosh airshow.
Stop by our booth for a demo, and then visit one of these resellers to purchase a GPS Pro for yourself:
- MyGoFlight: Hangar B (booth 2080), Hangar D (booth 4108)
- Redbird Flight Simulation: Tents 208/219 (3rd tent from NW corner of Hangar D)
After the show we'll provide an update on when the GPS Pro will be available online and from our resellers worldwide.
Aviators: stay tuned for another announcement on Tuesday afternoon. If you're in Oshkosh this week, stop by our booth (Hangar B, booth 2125-2126) for a sneak peek!

Hi Zack,
Thanks for the feedback! Photo geo-tagging was definitely one of the scenarios we considered when designing the GPS Pro. We’re looking at more options for transferring and sharing the log files, and the iTunes app/file integration seems like a promising approach. I passed this along to the development team for review when we get back from the Oshkosh show this week.
Best regards,
Brett
I have been corresponding with Jeff through email but wanted to add my 2 cents worth here. I think this is a great update and will be getting one for geotagging photos in Adobe Photshop Lightroom. I would love to be able to transfer the log files directly from the device instead of having to email them from my iPhone/iPad. Ideally the logs would be on my iDevice and then I could save them to the computer using iTunes. I can’t wait for this new product to be released!
Hi Michael,
I’m assuming you mean that the Bad Elf GPS tends to fall out when you have the pass-thru charging cable attached? This can be a problem since our cables are fairly thick to support the iPad’s higher charging current requirements. A good trick to alleviate this issue is to fold the cable 180 degrees and run it back under the iPad or secure it to a mount. This will reduce the amount of leverage on the 30-pin dock connector, and depending on your installation, can actually help lock the dongle in place.
Hope that helps!

Hi Wayne,
Thanks for the kind words! At this time we’re only supporting Apple iOS devices via Bluetooth, and the USB port is used only for charging. But I will pass along your request for Mac OS support.
Best regards,
Brett
