Phew! It's been quite a journey from concept to product launch, and we're almost there. We got approval to start publicly demonstrating the Bad Elf GPS accessory way back in July, but honestly the website has been lower on the list of priorities. Until now! Expect much more in the next 2 weeks.

I would very much like to do some test! I fly small general aviation airplanes (bug smashers) and business jets as well. My partner is also in the process of converting from a pc with Bluetooth over to an iPad as well.

Hi Ken!
I’m a pilot myself (PP-SEL) – but haven’t checked out Fore Flight – will take a look.
We’re using an MTK chipset that is extremely good at picking up and keeping GPS lock in urban canyons and other environments where multi-path signal reflections are an issue – like your cockpit. I don’t have hard numbers to prove it (yet), but the Bad Elf GPS should give you a better GPS signal than the internal GPS receiver.
If you’re willing to do some tests I can probably get you an eval unit in the next few weeks – drop me an email via the Feedback tab on the right side of the site.
Also, if you’d like to see a Bluetooth-GPS device that’s compatible with iOS devices, add that to the New Product Ideas section of the Feedback tab. If there’s enough interest we can look into that.

I utilize fore flight for an aviation moving map application. The internal IPAD GPS doesn’t seem to be be very reliable & in an airplane with electrically heated windshield has a hard time establishing & maintaining satellite signal. My old Bluetooth GPS had no problem. Just curious about your thoughts on your new product? Thanks in advance!
@drumin2 and @Xu Hui – Look for a blog post in the next day with pricing information. We’re expecting to have inventory shipping out the door by Oct 22.
@Jim – Thanks for the encouragement! We’re building the list of apps that already have offline map capability, all of which are compatible with our accessory today – should have that posted soon. If you have some favorite apps, please let us know! Hopefully more app developers will consider using local data storage so they can target iPod touch and Wi-Fi iPad devices – roughly half of the iOS devices out there.
