Geocaching challenges you to discover the hidden secrets of the world around you, while getting some exercise. Geocaching provides lots of time to talk and interact while searching for a common goal. Its a great way for children to make better friends with their classmates, or for adults to catch up with old friends. All you need to get started is an iPod touch, iPad or iPhone, a Bad Elf GPS for geocaching and one of the geocaching apps listed below.

We collect a list of apps and accessories for use when geocaching. If you find another app or accessory that you think we should add to the list, please contact us using the feedback link.

Geocaching can be a fun family activity. You do not need much equipment, beyond your iOS device, a geocaching app and your Bad Elf GPS. However, this one accessory can augment an iOS device that lacks an internal compass.

Manual Compass

Not all iOS devices include a compass. A handy manual compass ensures that you can orient the map on your favorite iOS App properly. GPS headings are great when you are moving, but they become unreliable when you are standing still. To get an idea of your orientation when you are stopped, you need a compass. Make sure you buy a compass that is setup for the magnetic declination for the area where you will be hiking or camping. See below for a well reviewed, inexpensive compass for the northern hemisphere.
