Bad Elf GPS & iPad (3rd generation)

Received the new iPad an hour ago – we’ve run some quick tests, and are happy to report the Bad Elf GPS seems to work just fine. Please note that we can’t officially claim compatibility with the new iPad until we have approval from Apple under the Made for iPod (MFi) program. Based on past experience we expect this to be complete within 3-4 weeks.

What’s that app on the screen, you ask? That’s a preview of our new utility app, which should be available on the App Store shortly. More details soon!

New iPad, iOS 5.1, and More

Sorry for the radio silence here on the blog! The Bad Elf team has been extremely busy these last few months, and we’ve got a lot in the works for 2012.

Today we’ve got a Smörgåsbord of updates:

The new iPad (3rd generation)

Like everyone else, we eagerly watched the Apple event on Wednesday, and the announcement of the new iPad did not disappoint. The new display and faster CPU means that our favorite tablet continues to perform amazingly well even with apps that do more and more. Need justification to upgrade? Check out Flying magazine’s Five Reasons Pilots ‘Need’ the New iPad.

If nothing else, the fact that the base iPad 2 now starts at $399 means pilots can get an amazing and inexpensive device that is very capable of running ForeFlight and WingX for years to come.

Which brings us to the million dollar question that has started flooding our support team…

Will the Bad Elf GPS work with the new iPad?

The answer is: it should! We have our new iPads on order for delivery March 16, so we’ll be testing the Bad Elf GPS as soon as we can rip the boxes open. Based on prior experience with new iOS devices and models, we’re not expecting any surprises.  Please rest assured, we will post an update here on the blog ASAP. If we do find any issues, we will be working around the clock to resolve them.

We won’t have an official “Made for iPad (3rd generation)” statement until we have gone thru the official MFi re-certification process with Apple, so that will be a few weeks after the device is actually in our hands and on the test bench.

iOS 5.1 & Bad Elf GPS: So happy together…

Apple also released iOS 5.1 this week. We ran our full suite of tests (both automated and manual) on all of our supported platforms, and the Bad Elf GPS works great. Upgrade away!

New products in 2012

Yes!

Want to hear about them? Subscribe to our email newsletter or RSS feed. We promise you’ll be the first to know! Unfortunately we can’t say a word until then, so don’t bother hounding our support team ;-)

New additions to the Bad Elf family

I wasn’t kidding when I said the Bad Elf team has been busy. Since last August, we’ve added 3 baby elves – all girls – to the extended family. Needless to say our team is working some odd hours these days.

That’s it for today. More soon!
